Hi everyone,

Looks like if we get the PPR, my husband will need to return to our current country of residence after landing. Does the rule of 4 out of 6 years for citizenship apply to dependents, or is it just the main applicant that has to be in the country?

Thanks for your help!

That rule is for being eligible to apply for citizenship. If your spouse does not spend 4 out of the next 6 years in Canada, they won't be eligible for citizenship but their PR status will not be affected. To retain PR status, they have to spend 730 days in a period of 5 years inside Canada.

Thank you, Asivad. Helpful as always.
