Hi, I've searched for similar questions, but couldn't find an answer.

My wife is sponsoring me, she entered Canada via Express Entry program 7 months earlier, now I'm applying for permanent residence as a spouse. The question is: does she need to provide police certificate or it applies only to me? Does anybody know?

Thanks!

nope! just the primary applicant and any dependents over the age of 18

That would be great, but the form "IMM 5669" should be provided for both, me and sponsor as far as I understood?

starnaenae Thank you for the reply! In that case it makes our life a little bit simpler. :)

Does anybody disagree with those answers? Just to be 100% sure, we're very nervous about the application as it was already returned once due to incorrectly provided forms. :(

i can confirm this.. we didnt send anything in for the sponsor in regards to Schedule A or police check. also, verify on the checklist... no where does it state that it is required for the sponsor

I can also confirm, my USA citizen husband is the principal applicant and he submitted his police certificate from the states he lived in, plus the FBI clearance, plus an Australia Federal Police Clearance for when he lived in Australia. I, the sponsor living in Canada, submitted no police certificates or any other background check documents. Our application is 5 months into processing and I've been approved as a sponsor, his medicals and biometrics have passed, and they still haven't asked for any additional documents yet.

So rest assured, you do not need to submit police certificate for the sponsor. Also, our immigration lawyer says submitting extra documents that they didn't ask for can sometimes cause confusion and delays, so keep it to what is requested on the forms.

All the best!

EDIT: I see joykeeper's message was from 2 years ago, so I guess this is a little late whoops.

For the police report is it okay to submit a photocopy or the original must be submitted?
Kindly advise
Thanks

As far as I know, the police certificate must be an original. With our case, my husband's police clearance certificate from Michigan was both requested online and downloaded online, so that digital version was the original and we could freely print as many originals as we liked. On the contrary, the state of Tennessee mailed the police clearance certificate, so we had to request that they mail 2 originals (we needed one original for family class sponsorship application, and one for criminal rehabilitation application since he has criminal charges). EDIT: Turns out you don't need state police certificates for the family class sponsorship; it's only for rehabilitation. Sorry about the confusion! Family class sponsorship only needs the federal level of police clearance.

I would also recommend that you keep a scanned copy before you mail off the originals with your application package, just so you can have it for reference and in case you need it for some reason.

Thank you very much Stella that’s what I thought too but I just wanted to know what other applicants submitted. Thanks once again

Hello, did he submit the original copy or a photo copy of his police report? It’s doesn’t state on the checklist which to send. Please advise which copy was submitted. Thank you very much

We submitted all originals for every police clearance we obtained. Our lawyer informed us that originals are required for all police clearances. If for some reason you are unable to provide the original, you need to include an explanation of why you cannot submit the original.

Perfect thanks. What about birth certificate original or photocopy?
