Hi all,

I know that it is stated that one has to be *inside* of Canada to take the online citizenship test.

Still my question: is this being enforced somehow and if yes, how? Are they e.g. checking the user’s IP address (then what about using a BPN?), are they looking at the user’s passport stamps, or anything else?

Did anybody actually manage to take the online test *outside* of Canada? How did it go? What happened?

I’m looking for people who really did experience this.

Thank you for any tips!

They asked you for a simple requirement, and you want to bypass it? Why? What for?

Note that before covid, the test, interview and oath were all done in-person inside Canada, no exceptions. The online process is to promote social distancing measures, rather than make it convenient while you’re overseas.

Yes, they do have access to your CBSA records (which you consent to in the application form), and they tend to ask for updated passport stamps after the test.

You were answered about the VPN in your duplicate post.

My advice is not to try it—ask for an extension until you return to Canada—unless you want to risk potential consequences, such as getting blacklisted from applying for citizenship.

Also, asking about essentially cheating IRCC isn’t a popular stance in this forum.

Asking that question is basically the same as asking if I shoplift what are the chances I’ll get caught? Or if I cheat on my tax return , what are the chances I’ll get audited ? It’s wrong regardless.
It’s called ethics. It’s the moral fibre of who we are as a person . The core
You shouldn’t have to ask

They are conducting verification of info like IP addresses and travel records. There has been at least one report of people being caught lying but I can't find it right now and I don't remember if the post explained how that person got caught (I think it was one of those "my friend" posts). They don't need passport stamps to verify your travel. They have access to flight manifests and also share info with the US where US travel is involved, including land crossings. This is misrepresentation which is a pretty huge deal. IMO, it's not worth the risk unless you are fine losing both citizenship and PR. The person who was caught might have been caught afterwards, which would mean citizenship would be revoked and they are also no longer a PR. I don't think we got many details but will try to find the post. Bit of a needle in a haystack unfortunately. Also might have been on a different immigration forum.
