Or is it just me who thinks things have slowed down for Americans?

actually American process is faster
 
Youre seriously worrying too much. Just be patient. No two apps are the same. Wait for your notes
 
Your timeline looks fine. Everything seems to be moving at a steady pace. I sponsored my American husband. We waited two months for sponsor approval and then another two and a half months from the start of the background check to final decision. And we still managed to finish just under the six month mark. You're doing good. No worries.
