does MSP (BC) cover lab tests

Hello just wondering if anyone can confirm from their personal experience or probably know for a fact.

Does MSP in BC cover lab tests. My doctor requested some blood tests etc. However he just fumbled oh they may charge you $80 for that.

I thought MSP covered lab tests. Did I miss something?

If they are medically necessary, they should be covered as far as I know. However, if it's something you asked for out of personal interest, because you need them for immigration or some other application or your own curiousity, you might have to pay yourself.

Now I did not request them myself. I'm a new resident and I visited the doctor. He requested the tests and gave me the form. By I remember he mumbled something about paying $80 :s and I didn't really ask him.

Do you think its covered?

You are a new resident and not covered by MSP yet? Then you'd also have to pay yourself.

No I am covered by the MSP and have the Provincial care card etc

I was in the same situation. The lab test is covered by MSP.
