Hello everyone,

Does having a Canadian spouse help with Express Entry? Am I going to get more points or less points (compared to if I am still single)? I tried 2 different point calculation systems and got 2 different results. I am asking because my score is at the edge of being invited.

My boyfriend and I wanted to get married soon but not sure if we should. I don't want to do the Family Sponsorship route because I want to immigrate independently.

Thank you in advance.

Less, if your spouse doesn't take IELTS test and doesn't have Canadian post-sec diploma

The answer is No. My bad

Not true. If the spouse (or Common-law Partner) is already a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, they are classified as "non-accompanying" and the applicant is scored the same as a single person. No benefit or penalty to being married for the EE CRS.

If you have canadian work experience and expect to qualify through the CEC program, there is no bonus for having a Canadian relative. There is if you qualify through the Federal Skilled Worker program.

If you have been living together for at least 1 year, you qualify as a "common-law partner" - you don't need to rush the wedding, CLPs are treated the same as legally married spouses. You just have to prove you have been living together for a year.
