Hello

I am a PhD student with Research and Teacher Assistant experience. However, my income for RA is paid to me as scholarship and hence I have not paid tax for that and I received T4A slip not T4 slip. My supervisor and department agreed to report my experience as research assistant but I am not quiet sure would this count as work experience or not.

Any response is appreciated

Hi,

According to NOC list of occupations both TA/RA are acceptable occupations to receive points for immigration. However, to prove it you need a W-2 form which is called Wage & Tax Statement. That's because scholarship isn't a wage. You need a social security number to have paychecks and W-2, but that's strange that you didn't pay taxes. Where're you doing your PhD?

Hi, This is actually my question as well? So were you able to get any clear answer to this question? How could I solve this problem? I'm also not being paid directly by my supervisor but I am paid through a scholarship.
Thanks a lot for your help!
