Does emailing the embassy about case delay it?

I have read multiple times that if you send a case specific enquiry about your case multple times it will delay your case. Is that true? And why? Even if the case has gone over the processing time?

I think the wording is if you send documents through multiple means it can delay the application. For instance, mailing a copy of a document as well as emailing it. When they get the mailed version, they'd have to figure out where/what/why it was sent.
