Hi,

I am a lawyer working in Mainland, China for 3 years. I wonder what documents are required to prove the working experience.

Now I have (1) employment contracts, (2)the letters of experience from all my employers (including the current and former), and (3)the payrolls as proofs of my salaries. But do i need to upload the scanned copy of my lawyer license? If Yes, in China, we have to change our license once we quit former job and work in a new law firm. So I only have the license which can prove I am now working in my current firm, but I don't have the license that can prove former working experience.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi,

You don't "have to" give license certificate or good standing certificate BUT the more documents you provide the better in my opinion.

In my case I gave employment letters for past jobs and for current role I did an explanation letter to which I attached my pay stubs, my business card, I referred to the URL of my profile on the firm's website, I gave two recommendation letters from other associates and I also gave a good standing certificate to prove that I was indeed admitted to the bar.

Maybe it was too much, but I didn't want to take any chances, especially since I couldn't ask an employment letter from my current boss.

If I were you I would do a cover letter to explain your job situation and annex all relevant documents to the cover letter. At that point you can explain that in China the bar admission certificate doesn't show when you were first admitted and saying you nonetheless attach a recent certificate for their information.
