Hi,

I would like to sponsor my wife who I married in Algeria. I'm a Canadian citizen and live in Canada, she live in Algeria.

I do speak both French and English but she's more French and personally I would like to fill the forms in English as probably I'll be looking after most the application and paperwork.

In Algeria, French would be much easier if she has to deal with this.

1- Would it affect the processing speed if I use one language than the other?

2- For the supporting documents, is that ok if I mix French and English or I have to translate to a single language? for example, I can get my Algerian marriage in French while my previous Canadian divorce certificate is in English.

Thanks in advance.

Both are official languages, so no problem in having some in French and some in English.

I actually filled my part (sponsor) in French and CIC is communicating with me in French. My wife filled the forms in English and CIC is communicating with her in English. Some of your supporting document were in English, some in French.

English & French are both official languages, you can submit documents in either, both, or a mixture.

(At least on the old forms) there was a checkbox for your preferred language of communication, so you can select English for sponsor, and she can select French for PA (I believe there was also a box for comfortable in one/other/both, so you can select that you use both, and want to be communicated with in English, without which they might wonder why you don't share a language).

I did the apllication in english but i'm from a french family and all supporting letter from my side was in french, no problem at all ;)
