Hi everyone!
I've been working in Canada for the past 2 and a half years as a
Temporary foreign worker. I recently got married and we decided to file for sponsorship
My issue is that my work visa is about to expire in less then a month and we still haven't gathered all
The information required by the government such as his record of income taxes and my criminal record clearance, we applied for it but the system proves to be slowed then I thought. I did, however, got my medical examination out of the way.
My question is, should I apply for an extention as a visitor while we wait so we don't have issues with my status later once we do send the sponsorship in? And what do I state as my reason for extention? Or should we wait for all the document to come in and send it all in regardless the expiry date on my work permit.

Thanks for your help!

Definitely extend his status as a visitor if he can't renew his work permit. I would pay the fees and send the receipt with the extension app. This shows you are serious about filing the application.

Were applying from inside Canada.
Should I state that were waiting for some documents or state my will to travel. Will that compromise the approval of a visitor visa or raise some questions later on?

Can't you file for work permit extension or a new initial work permit? Go through the regular procedure, get your LMO, get your employer to sign some papers and go flagpoling to have your new permit in 10 to 60 minutes of waiting time at the immigration office. Or send everything online/through snail mail and keep working under implied status.

That would be the easiest thing to do, unfortunately we moved away to a different province because of my husbands job. Therefore I can't extend my initial work permit.

"About to apply for PR" or "even working together on preparing the PR application" is a perfectly legitimate reason for extending to a visitor permit. I would send a copy of the receipt for the PR and also a copy of the medical exam certificate. When my partner got his second extension and we still hadn't sent the PR application, they asked for the medical to be done within 90 days.

Good advice from BeShoo.

Why have you chosen an Inland application? They are generally slower than Outland.

Thanks for the help everyone! It's greatly appreciated!
I just have one more question, in order for me to have a legal status while they process the application, should I send in an application for an open work permit along with the pr application or apply for an extention as a visitor?

If you are applying inland, send the OWP application with the sponsorship application. That will keep you in status.
