Copies are fine. While a few people report getting some items back, that's the exception not the rule. I wouldn't send CIC ANYTHING that I expected to get back, particularly letters that have sentimental value to you.

Good luck!

I have heard of other people having the originals returned, but rather than risk losing sentimental items you can photocopy them for sure. You could attach a short note explaining that you have provided a copy due to this value, but on request you can supply the original if required.
Most people send in copies of this kind of thing. If the VO wants originals they will specify it, or in the case of statutory declarations and the actual forms it is common sense.

I got all the pictures that I sent in and marriage invitations. These were all originals. everything else we sent in were photocopies. I would recommend u to send photocopies of anything important. I don't think it really matters.

cheers and good luck :)
