Hello,

We need to get some documents translated from Russian. Things such as her Russian Passport (not international, a domestic passport) birth certificate, insurance etc.

I have seen that we not only need to get the documents translated, but also "legalized".

Can someone please explain the steps we need to go through with our documents. I am unsure if we simply get them translated by an official notary/translator, or if there is more that we need to do.

Thanks!

Hi there. All the steps and exactly what you need to do are listed in the guide here. Basically, in addition to supplying certified translations, you need to supply a certified copy of the original documents as well (some people get this confused). So it's not just the translations that have to be certified/notorized, the copies of the untranslated documents need to be certified/notarized as well. According to the guide, a certified translator should be able to take care of both these things.
