Document Translation-Notarization

Hi Everyone,

I have searched up and down on the forum and can't seem to find a clear answer.

I am sponsering my common law partner (outland) as such in the IMM5490 form it asks him to supply the following information as proof of our relationship:

Insurance Policies/Wills naming your partner as benificiary
Documents showing travel togather
Identity Documents showing same address
Documents showing joint ownership of possessions
Joint Rental Agreements
Joint Bank Account

Now here's the question - we have all of this stuff however most of it is NOT in English (or french) and there are no instructions in this form about translation. However in the regional specific form it says:
Send notarized photocopies of all other documents, unless instructed otherwise. Retyped copies are not acceptable.
If your documents are not in English or French, send a notarized translation with a copy of the originals. These must be done by an official translator. You cannot translate your own documents.

It then asks for all this information again in our region specific form so what do we need to get a certified translation and then notarized and what is ok as is (or translated by us).

We were also going to include our utility Bill, our internet bills, letters addressed to us at the same address and so forth but most of this is not in english again do we need to pay someone to get these certified translated and then notarized?

i sent them notorized retyped copies, because the notorization office i went to said that is the only way they will do it
now i am not sure if i have to resubmitt them as notorized copies

Right - I believe it's the same region specific form (we're applying for Israel). However do I have to translate and notarize everything? The lease, and his military service record I can understand, but what about our utility bill, our drivers licenses, our internet bill and all the other stuff we want to submit just to be 'safe'. Do you think we need to get all the translated and certified.

Also - we have an original of his birth certificate can we just send in the original (it's issued from the office that doesn't birth certificates and it's in both english and hebrew)

Get official documents translated by an official translator and notarized.
Things like utility bills, emails and letters that you are using as additional proof of the genuineness of your relationship: in an ideal application these would also be translated by an official translator, but most people don't do this because of the expense. They send in a translation done by a friend - some have done the translations themselves, but since your country-specific instructions say not to, I wouldn't. Get the translator, even if not an 'official' translator, to include a statement saying the language translated and swearing that it is a true translation of the original. People on this forum who have sent in unofficial translations of 'extra' evidence such as emails have not reported any problems with doing this.

If the birth certificate has both English and Hebrew, it is OK as it is and won't need an official translation.
