We're applying for common law sponsorship soon, and I'm (20) the sponsorer and my bf (21) is being sponsored.

We currently have

1: Lease agreement 1.5 years old

2:Joint savings account 1.5 years old

3:Mail to the same Address (it was a bill from when I was trying out my FSHA but i only put like 15 dollars in it so I don't know if seeing that amount will get them to be like wtf?)

4: Wifi/electricity bill but it's difficult to prove it because I pay on my card sometimes and he pays on his sometimes but it never shows whos paying what and the account is under his name. Sometimes I jus tleave it in the savings and he takes it out and uses it to pay so this ones harder to prove

5: Plenty of photos, social media posts and friends to back us up (no family on my end as they are unsupportive, and most of his family is not in canada) . I know now it's only 10 photos, we compiled those in a PDF, should we include screenshots of our social media and private messages in that PDF as well?

ISSUES:

1: My notice of assessment was done incorrectly by myself, as I included my parents adress in it like I always do for all the prior years due to auto fill, and I forgot to change my address on my CRA account until recently which I didn't think about. Will this raise a red flag? I'm trying to get ahold of a CRA agent to correct it but I highly doubt it will be on time for us to send in the application, as his PGWP status ends in january 2026, so we're working on this as fast as we can.

2: We moved in together in late february 2024, so our common-law status isn't included in the tax filing because we were not common law in 2024 according to the CRA, is that an issue at all?

3: I make less than 400 a month due to being a student actively, and finishing my program in october which after that point I'll be working as a dental assistant and be able to support both of us better, he currently covers the entire rent and I only cover the bills, will this raise a red flag? I didn't want to take osap rent assistance as I don't want the extra debt.

Please send any help you can!!

Firstly, if you are applying as common-law...he is NOT your boyfriend! ;)

1. Not sure, but would suspect it's not a huge issue. Wait for others to offer comment.

2. No issue, because you are correct.

3. You do have to show how you will support him (for up to 3 years), since that's what you are `signing up for' by sponsoring him.
You cannot be on social assistance (which osap may be considered to be such assistance, but not sure) to be eligible to sponsor.

[Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner is 3 years]

There's no fixed minimum to sponsor a common-law or spouse. Make sure to disclose you will be finishing your program and will be able to work full-time. Also point out that your common-law is working (full-time?) and they will take into account the family income.
