Hi Everyone,

I am just curious. we are travelling to Canada in May 2018.

I am a canadian citizen, born there.

I now live in Australia with an Australian wife

We have a 2 year old and a child being born in January 2018.

My question is, do my children have to have canadian passports to enter canada if they were both born here in Australia?

Also, if they do, is there any possible ways to get certificate of citizenship and passports in 4 months?

We have been planning this trip for over a year as I am taking a sabbatical from work and my wife will be off on maturnity.

Others can comment so do not take my word for it but as long as you have not so far claimed your current childs and future childs Canadian citizenship through fact you are a citizen then they should be fine to travel on an Australian passport with an ETA.

Once you go through the process of claiming their Canadian citizenship then of course they would need a Canadian passport to enter Canada given until that time they would only be registered as Australian Citizens not Canadian as well.

Longer term I guess they will be faced with the need to keep 2 passports going, one to enter Canada and one to enter Australia
