Hello! I just got my Confirmation of Permanent Residence this morning, after 18 months of waiting! I received confirmation of my Landing Interview at Etobicoke just 2 days ago, which is a little short notice. Luckily my sponsor and i were able to make it.

Just one question - does anyone know if i still have to leave Canada and re-enter to validate my permanent residence? I forgot to ask the immigration officer, and she didn't mention anything about it. I only found out because a guy at Starbucks told me that's what his lawyer told him to to do!!

Thanks in advance :)

No. Since you received your CoPR at your landing interview, you're done!

A person that submits an Outland application receives their CoPR by mail and must leave and re-enter Canada (or wait for an appointment at their local CIC office) to officially `land'.

You do need to wait for your PR Card before you can travel on a commercial carrier (plane, train, bus, ship, etc.), but you can drive across the border (and back) with just your CoPR and passport in a private vehicle.

Congratulations!

*[EDIT]
I see from your previous posts that you are from a visa exempt country, so you do NOT need to wait for your PR Card to travel commercially; just use your passport, but don't mention your PR status to the carrier. To them you're still coming to Canada as a visitor. LOL!

Present both (passport and CoPR) upon re-entry into Canada to CBSA.

That's great news!

So just to clarify, because i applied for the permanent residence (spousal sponsorship) from within Canada, i don't need to exit and re-enter? :)

Thanks!! I spent many months waiting for this piece of paper, and this forum has been so useful during that time.

Good luck to everyone else who was in my shoes!

Omg I'm sorry.
Didn't realized that was an inland application.
Really sorry for the wrong answer.

That is correct.

Because you received your CoPR during a face-to-face meeting/interview from an officer, you have in fact landed as a new PR of Canada.

Only those that receive their CoPR in the mail (Outland applicants) have the option of leaving and re-entering to land.

Great, thanks Ponga! Not to worry DanSlh - i see my post wasn't as clear about my application as it could have been.

Cheers!
