Hi everyone, im currently on study visa and its expiring on July 31 2016
I will be applying for permanent residence through common law relationship. I havent sent in my application yet as I am still gathering documents needed and also waiting for my FBI police certificate. So the question is, do I need to extend my stay? Like do I actually need to apply for a visitor visa? The passport I have right now is from HKSAR, which is visa free for visiting Canada. So do i need to do anything on that?

Another question is, the immigrating agent is asking for my spouse's UCI. he immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1990s, he has no idea what his UCI is. can anyone also assist me that?
thank you very much.

Yes, you need to extend your stay and should do so around 30 days before it expires. As long as they receive your application before the day your current status expires, it's alright. If you can't renew your study visa (aren't studying anymore), then you can apply to extend your stay as a visitor: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp

If he doesn't remember his UCI, that's fine. It's optional.
