Do I need to apply for PR for my son who is a US Citizen

Hello Folks-

Good luck to everyone on this forum on their journey to canadian immigration. I have a question regarding my son's PR. He is a US Citizen. My wife and I are Indian citizens and getting ready to apply for canadian PR. If everything works out we intend to immigrate to canada once all approvals have taken place.

My question-my son is a US Citizen and I am not sure if I need to apply for his PR. From my knowledge a US Citizen can stay in canada without any visa for 6 months. So should I apply for his PR now or should I apply after settling in Canada?

Hi,

It'd entirely depend on him, as to what he wants. For u & your other family members, u can safely ignore him while applying, if he doesn't want to. However, u must write his name & fill-up the forms, notifying CIC that he'd be a 'non-accompanying' family member. this is for his ease at a later stage, if he so desires.

You should apply for PR for your entire family including US born son. Yes, US passport holder can visit Canada but that will not give him PR related privileges.

Its better that u shud apply for him now. CHC would be asking for his PCC N his medicals (if he is major) even if he is non accompanying. so anyway ull have to go thru the process. its better u apply now. thats only my opinion based on a relative's experience.
