Do I need to apply for a work permit before I move to canada?

Hi there, Im moving to Canada on a 6 months visitor status, and Id like to get a valid work permit.

Do I NEED to ask for a work permit before I move or can I apply for a work permit once Im in Canada within the 6 months?

1. You can't apply in Canada as a visitor.
2. You have to find an employer, who is willing to get an approved Labour Market Opinion from HRSDC after advertising the position on the job bank for 2 and then demonstrating that there are no Canadians or PRs available of qualified for the position. Depending the on the province anywhere from 6-16 weeks.
3. Once you have an approved LMO if your Visitor visa exempt you can apply at a border Port of Entry or if not, you have to apply to an overseas office.

If you are planning to come as a visitor and find work it probably wont happen, you don't just ask for a work permit it's a very difficult and lengthy process to roll up as a visitor and land a job (after all this is exactly what immigration don't want)

You would also need to show how you're going to support yourself for 6 months (you can't say you're going to find a job there).

Yea what i could do then is maybe just go for like a month, try not to get a job but really visit different towns and at the same time get some contacts and maybe get someone to do it for me when I come back to my country

Sure - you can try.

But you should still assume it's going to be very difficult to find an employer willing to hire you (whether you work on it in Canada or outside of Canada).

Just to add...

Since you were removed from the US after a long overstay - I assume you're aware that you have a 10 year ban from re-entering the US? Note that getting a Canadian work visa, PR or even Canadian citizenship won't change the fact that you have a ban (i.e. you still won't be able to re-enter the US until the ban has been completed/lifted).

I can't see it's all that easy, unless your qualifications/skills are in demand there....in which case there must be a better route to go down.

Yea I know this, but my ban is already being taken care of, theres a waiver for cases like mine since Im not a criminal whatsoever. Its like a second chance US gives to people like me.
But the reason why canada has nothing to do with US, I plan on staying in Canada.

And I dont think its that hard to find someone to hire me, Im an awesome worker better than mostly everyone Ive worked with, so I know what I can do, and I know theres lots of employers who want dynamic in their companies and they love to hire good foreigner workers.

I cant prove that Im good on papers, but theres employers who give it a shot depending on the way you approach them.
I got tons of experience on this from US hehe ..
