Hello,

In 2013 I spent about 5 and a half months in the US traveling around the country. Now that I applied for my PR (express entry - federal step) my lawyer said that they may tell me to give them a FBI police certificate as I spent about 6 months in the US (though it was not 6 months , it's less than 6 months as I mentioned)

Do you think I really need to apply for it ?

thanks,

you should apply for it so you can be prepared in case they do ask.

Until then, if you are ready to submit an application, you can write a letter of explanation stating you were in the USA for less than 6 months, which is why you have not included the FBI certificate.

Hello,

I don't think anyone here can tell you with certainty whether they will ask you for it or not (seeing your 5.5-month stay is very close to, albeit technically less than, the 6-month limit). However, if I were you I would apply for one very soon, because a) CIC can be unpredictable in what they ask (or don't ask) for. b) it takes the FBI 4 months to process requests these days and the delay seems to be increasing, sadly, so you don't want to be starting the process in a couple of months instead of now, and finally, c) it's not really that expensive.

Thanks for the replies.

Can I do the fingerprints here in Canada ? (I'm in Vancouver)

In the FBI application form requires last 4 digits of my Social Security Number (which is US-specific). What should I do with that ? Doesn't it mean it's for someone who actually LIVED in the states ?

its better you apply now as you have time ...because if they will ask after applying you will not have that much time to apply and get the FBI PCC ..the minimum processing time is 13 weeks. CIC will not give you that much time ...and unnecessary you will have to provide proof that you applied for it and waiting writ LOE to explain etc ....its better to be safe than sorry ....

You can leave the SSN field empty. It works just fine. (I've seen people put their passport # in the misc. field and it works too).
You can get fingerprinted anywhere. Some people do it themselves, but I recommend you find some place where they know what they're doing. Don't know much about Vancouver, sorry.
You can either use the form that's printed from the internet, or again, find a fingerprinting service that has the actual forms.

Best of luck
