UK passport holder planning to flagpole this weekend.

I will be crossing the border for no other reason than to activate my PR status here in Canada so my question is do I still need ESTA to be able to do this? If so, wat name, address and tel no. do I put as my point of contact in the US given that I won't be staying or visiting anywhere?

No. Tell CBP that you are flagpoling and they will give you an "administrative refusal".

Errm.....thanks... :/
:D

What does that mean, and will it have any affect on me entering the US in the future?

It's a little piece of paper saying you technically left Canada. It has zero effect on any future US entries and doesn't ever need to be mentioned or declared.

OK, thank you! "Administrative refusal" sounds so serious. That'll save me $42, anyway :)

I've just thought of something...

I'll be travelling with my two children. My daughter and I will be activating our PR status but my son isn't included. He will need to enter Canada for another 6 month stamp in his passport until his citizenship application is completed. Will he be able to get this at the same time or will he need to actually enter the US and come back into Canada (therefore requiring ESTA)?

Thanks!

What about applying online to extend your sons visitor status?

I guess I could, and have him here on implied status. Would I have to send his passport, do you know? Inland is about 5 months and we're travelling before then.

$100 and 142 days to extend visa, $42 for ESTA for three people.....

The only people who can't get admin refusals are US citizens. He will also be given an admin refusal and doesn't need an ESTA.

But will still get a new entry stamp for Canada?

Brilliant! Thank you, as always, for your excellent advice.
