I wrote an IELTS acaddemic exam 2 years back, so I guess thats not valid now.

A month ago I have sent my PR documents to sydney, in which i mentioned I have the required test results, I am planning to write it now. The doubt that I have is, I have been in Canada for the past 2 years. I was going to a trip to India, where i was planning to write the IELTS general exam. Will they accept it or not, or do I have to write the exam in canada.

Also do I have to write the IDP australia exam or British council one?

both exams are the same. just that different orgs conduct it.

i guess you can write it anywhere in the world. But, note that they'll send you the result card in India after 2 weeks.

For immigration you need Ielts General not academic.. I read it somewhere that they will not accept academic or something like that..

that's right... should not be academic.

no its not necessary to sit IELTS exam only in the country of residence. you can sit an IELTS exam in your current country of residence.
