I made an online application on April 12th from India and haven't heard back yet. I may have to go to the US soon though. What happens if I get a passport request while I am there? Can I just submit my passport to the nearest embassy in the US?

Background: I am an Indian citizen, I have a job in Canada. I came to India for a vacation and didn't realize my TRV had expired. My employers are now considering moving me to their US office until I get my visa.

They will ask to submit passports in Delhi office.

do you have visa to even work in the US ?

Yes, I have a US B1/B2 that let's me go on short-term business trips. I can't be employed by a company based in the US, but can work for my Canadian employer.

Difficult decision as you could travel to the US, send your passport back to India but meanwhile be in the US without a passport so what do you do if asked to show ID being a foreign national in the US. Also what to do if for some reason you need to leave the US you would probably need some emergency travel document from India Embassy/Consulate which if like other countries assumes passport is lost/stolen so in return for the document they cancel the passport.

Hmm, but is it certain that I will have to submit passport to the Delhi visa office?

I have a friend who applied for a PR in Canada, but submitted passport in India.

I have the exact same situation. I applied for my wife's trv on April 14th but got no reply. She has a US visa and her Canadian PR application is in progress and we are now tired of waiting so we are planning to that she can come to US. But if she gets trv then is it necessary that she has to submit passport in New Delhi for stamping?
