Hello forum,

I'm in Canada as a tourist and my wife is on Maternity EI.
We applied Inland sponsorship and my current application status (online) is " Application Received by Citizenship and Immigration Canada "
Since Inland is taking forever, I'd like to switch to outland by withdrawing the current inland app. and applying outland anew.
Do I need to leave Canada to withdraw inland and apply outland? Our friend told us that I can just remain in Canada.

The reason I want to stay in Canada is because we have a baby girl now and as a father, I don't want to miss my baby growing. If my wife and our baby can stay outside Canada while sponsoring me, we would all fly and wait outside Canada. Or I'd try entering Canada while my outland process is on.

By the way, will I get refund for my previous inland application? My application status is "Application Received"

Please suggest any idea as it would be helpful. Thanks!

Applying outland has nothing to do with where you're residing, it has to do with what office your application will be processed at (outside of Canada, in your home country's office). Inland, however, does require you to be living in Canada at the time of and throughout your application.

Will my wife be eligible to sponsor me as she is now in Maternity EI?
Will I still be able to extend my stay in Canada if I withdraw my inland application? I wish to be with my newborn daughter!

Sorry for adding questions!

Your wife can still apply to sponsor you but they do ask for proof of funds, so if you cannot show that you will be taken care of while in Canada, there may be an issue.

How are you currently in canada? Temporary permit, work permit, illegal, etc.

If you have a temporary visitor permit/visa, you can apply for an extension. I would wait until you've re-submitted your application and then apply for the extension, so you can show that you've applied for permanent residency. (This will help your case.)

Im given Temporary Visitors permit until 2016 November. Should I just withdraw inland and apply outland without visa extension?

by the way, I just realized I will have to go through another hazzle of preparing all the documents :'( :'( :'(
Do they return my original documents back once I withdraw inland? I think I can use some of them.

Depending on what visa office you're applying through, you may be able to have your application done within that time frame. If you withdraw and reapply through outland, you could then wait until 30 days before your visitor permit expires and then apply for an extension if you haven't gotten PR yet. This will allow you the maximum amount of time plus you'll be given implied status until your application for visitor extension is approved or denied (implied status means that you'll be allowed to continue the terms of your permit, whether its a work/visitor/study/etc) until they've made a decision on the application).

I'm not sure if they return the application or not. Someone else may be able to comment on that.
