Hello,
I would appreciate any advice on my case.
I got an admission from a Canadian university in 2007, got a study permit in 2007, came to Canada, and successfully finished my master's degree in 2010. During this time, I had my study permit renewed with no problem. After my graduation, being the idiot I am, I could apply to change my status to work permit and stay in Canada legally, but due to my ignorance/negligence, I lost my status and ended up overstaying for 20 months in Canada! The reason it took so long was that I was looking for different ways to restore my status. For example, I got a job offer and filled for Labour Market Opinion, but that application got refused. Then, I started working for a professor at a university as a volunteer (i.e. was not being paid or registered with HR). The professor liked my work very much and offered me an admission and good funding to start a master's degree (my second masters after the first one on 2007) with her starting from this September. I explained to her that I may have difficulty getting a student visa, so she wrote a very strong and convincing recommendation letter to Canadian embassy for me. Having this admission and recommendation letter, I left Canada a few weeks back, and I am planning to apply for a study permit from outside Canada from the country of my residence. Based on your experience/knowledge, do you think I will have a chance to get a student visa and return to Canada to do my second masters despite my long overstay? I have not submitted my study permit application to the embassy yet, so do you think there will be anything I could add to my application to make a strong case and increase the chance of getting the student visa?
Here is some extra information that might be useful:
* I was not contacted by Canadian government at all during my overstay, and I did not receive any removal order.
* I left Canada on my own cost and will.
* The positive points in my application are the funding I get from the university and strong recommendation letter I have from my future adviser.
* In my new study permit application, I think the best thing is to write the true dates of my stay in Canada. I do not plan to hide my overstay. I understand that misrepresentation can escalate my problem.
I understand that I have made a huge mistake and I should pay for it; Every single day now, I regret it and I know that I may never be permitted to return to Canada. All I want to/can do now is to face the music and try my best to fix things as much as possible.
Sorry about my long post and my excessive stupidity in this case! And thank you so much in advance for your help and comments.
Cheers,
Philemon
