Do I apply for visa extension and study permit extension separately?

Hi, I recently applied to extend my study permit which expires the same date as my visa. I have received my study permit in the mail, but I was under the impression that I will also receive a new visa, so I am confused. Can someone clarify for me please. Thanks

No, you don't need a new visa unless you want to leave the country and fly back in. If you aren't planning any international travel, you don't need a visa - your study permit grants you status.

If you applied in Canada it is a separate application after you get the study permit.
You should apply for a TRV even if you dont have plans to travel because if an emergency comes up you will be stuck and unable to return to Canada.
