Hi Doc :) As I'm sure you know, "public health" encompasses a broad range of occupations and skills. This can range from epidemiologists and biostatisticians, researchers, to someone designing health communication campaigns in an NGO to a clinician practicing in a public health clinic. Opportunities and salaries vary just was widely. Many people in public health have dual degrees depending on their area of expertise. If you have a particular area of public health that you're interested in, the discussion might be more productive.

@ jes_ON

Thanks for your prompt response. What I am trying to do actually is consider options in public health especially with MPH.Arears I am considering are environmental and occupational health, epidemiology and health services management. What are your thoughts on these?
Thanks.

I see. Well, health services management has pretty good opportunities and probably pays the highest, but this will also be the area where being an immigrant may be a disadvantage, as a really strong grasp of the Canadian (and provincial) health system is mandatory. But it's one of those degrees that cannot fail to help, esp. if you intend to try to get licensed as a physician in Canada.

Epidemiology - check here - the only thing about epi is that while an MPH is good, a PhD is better.

As for occupational / environmental health, unless you're in academia (again, PhD required), those positions appear to be "officer" type jobs - inspectors / program managers - that rely as much on specific industry expertise (e.g. mining) as it does health. That is not to say there aren't opportunities - but I don't see a lot where the combination with your medical background would be in high demand (if that matters to you), but I could be wrong - this is outside my area...

www.jobbank.gc.ca, eluta.ca, workopolis.com - these are all job websites where you can search by job type to get a sense of opportunities and salaries...

Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate your sharing your knowledge with me. I can deduct from your explanations that health services management is probably the best direction in the long run. I will keep that in mind and work towards it.

Are you in public health line too or a medical practitioner? Can I PM my email so we can communicate more?
Once more thanks.

Please feel free to PM me -
