My husband has Cystic Fibrosis and he is eligible for the Disability Tax Credit based on his disease however he is afraid to take it in fear he will be ineligible as a sponsor.

Can anyone verify whether it would be alright for him to or not?

Unemployment insurance and dissability have no effect on sponsorship. He can take his credit and still apply.

I know I posted this thread a while back but I would still like some opinions on this. We just got good news that we may be getting money we desperately need if hubby gets the okay for the credit which seems like he would based on what CRA and doctors told him. I just want to verify before we go ahead apply that it is okay for him to take this.

Could any senior members such as RobsLuv, rjessome, PMM, or Leon give me some reassurance? I appreciate everything I can get.

I receive it for my son, and it did not affect our sponsorship at all. Anything that pertains to disability is fine.

It is nice to know that. Thanks for sharing your input Cdagal. Like I guess I knew it would okay but I just don't like taking chances with immigration. Already been waiting this long and don't want to screw it up now, you know? Just needed the extra reassurance before we send in the certificate which will probably been in the next couple of weeks.

Kind of a personal question but you don't have to answer or you can in a private message. But just wondering, how long does it take before you know if you are approved or not? I heard 12-14 weeks. That is quite a long time. :o

Originally, I was told 8 weeks. All total, it took close to 7 months...though they do back-date everything up to 10 years depending on what the doctor puts as the start date of the medical condition.

As the others have confirmed, the disability tax credit is fine and will not affect your husband's ability to sponsor you. Good luck. CF is a very difficult disease. I hope he is feeling well this winter.

Cdagal: Oh wow! Well I mean my husband is 21 now and has been diagnosed since he was 6 weeks old. This could take a while. Thank you for sharing that though.

rjessome: Thank you so much for helping to answer that. Hubby really deserves to get something he is entitled to but he was so afraid because of all of this but now I am so glad I can reassure him for a fact that it is okay. :) And thank you so much for thinking of him. It definitely is a tough disease and that is why you take it one day at a time. It is all we can do. He is actually surprisingly doing very well this winter. He does normally get sicker in the winter though due to all the sickness floating in the air and such. Again thank you so much. We appreciate you being so caring and thoughtful. :-*

I'm sure that having you near this winter is definitely helping him Love :)

Thanks so much Kel. The doctors have constantly told me how much better he is doing since being with me.
