Hello everyone, need some help and guidance from experts !
I received PR in March 2010, but arrived in April 2014 and got a job and been a resident of ON since then. Recently, I got laid off from the job, filed for EI.
I filed tax, now received some tax refund cheque with NOA stating error in my DOB. CRA needs PR card to correct it. PR has a expired date hence not considered valid ID. I can apply for PR renewal after April 2016 when I obtain necessary RO.
I had never encountered issue with my DOB in any records in my life time. Don';t know how to tide over this issue till I complete PR renewal. Quite stressed please help.

Just send your expired PR card photocopy stating that you are not applying for a new one as you don't plane leaving Canada soon.

Thanks guys for the reply. I did the landing formalities in 2010. Due to family problems was not able to stay here then . Since April 2014 I am staying in ON continuously and plan to settle here. I arrived at Toronto airport and on both occasion I went through the officials counter and not kiosk.
I had been to service Canada in person showed both DL and Ohip card. Asked for PR card, I wasn't carrying it, but she mentioned cannot accept PR with an expired date as a valid ID. Simply stressed was unaware of this DOB issue or I would had fixed it earlier and stayed for 2 years before applying for renewal as learnt in the several threads on this forum.

It doesn't sound like the problem is about your PR card.

The issue is that they need valid ID.

Bring your passport and landing documents as well as your other IDs. Bring your SIN card and everything else. Bring your birth certificate.

You are not required to have a valid PR card for anything within Canada. There are alternatives.

After getting laid off after 14 months of full time work.I had plans for ei and opportunity to pursue second career which doesn't seem possible. As social service registry needs valid prc to fix my DOB issue, which arise out of nowhere. Do not know whether further taking up to fix the issue will work, the ro obligation is currently not in my favour.
latest, I have moved up in a test and interview for a better job. Just awaiting the final outcome. If things fail here due to requirement of valid prc then survival job is the only option left.
Thanks for your help guys.

Abner, that's not true.
They need 2 pieces of valid ID. It does not have to be a PR Card.
An expired PR card is not valid.

If you still have trouble, you need to go to a settlement agency and ask for their help. Google your city and "settlement agency". Call them. They can help you.

PR cards ARE NOT required in Canada. Only at the border.

+1 to all this. In addition: I'll emphasize that the expired PR card is not valid as ID, however that does not negate the information it contains.

As an anecdotal aside: I had a similar problem applying for EI a few years ago (error in vital statistics, expired PR card). Service Canada corrected it using expired PR card, my passport & COPR, SIN card. Be polite, but be firm, and good luck.

Hi

Same happened with someone else, you can show valid passport and license copy, both shows your BD

:-\ Thank you partners, I understand what you express but carry some apprehensions approaching again. I did show up at Service Canada in person with DL, SIN & OHIP, but the officer asked for a valid PR card stating expired PR were accepted earlier as valid piece of ID not anymore. Besides I assume things are more stringent when it comes to EI disbursement and second career. I would have not applied for it, but my colleagues convinced me to take the golden opportunity as we got laid off from FT employment. I did the homework before applying EI by calling their office for document requirement and eligibility. Only a permanent SIN and ROE was required. Here I got convinced and went ahead to apply. But the DOB issue surfaced after I submitted the application online and I tried to access my account that's when the error showed up. Kind of stranded for a while, but hopefully will start off soon.
Good Luck to myself & Thank you all.

Wow what a pain in the butt. Many people have warned about the PR card "feature-creep" and this seems to be an example of it.

Yes, I did not pay attention to the landing papers after receipt of pr card, papers does have the correction in dob. I have found a copy of the same, trying to search the originals. Correction was done by the official during the first entry at airport 5 years ago. I assumed everything was fixed and seamless because during issue of sin, dl, ohip cards no problem was encountered. Thank you again.

Because your landing paper is far more important than your permanent resident card so they'd accept it instead.
