hey everyone,

i have to share my story...
i sent off our application (common-law) in september...in october CIC requested a translation of my german police certificate i had failed to send with...they received it by the end of october i assume...
since then we never heard anything!
in december i grew somewhat concerned since we hadn't even received sponsor approval and we were way past the times suggested on the website...i got a response that our application was in process, that was it!

as a little background story...i was living most of the time with my partner in canada and always just went home in the summer time for a visit with my family, write exams and work a bit...

i'm a distant student enrolled at a german university and studied for the past almost 3 years from canada, doing everything online...i was also able to write exams from canada so never had any mandatory events where i HAD to be present and fly back to germany for...
now i'm in my last semester and i'll hopefully start writing my bachelor thesis by the end of september...
to be able to do so i HAVE to attend a seminar in august...its only 2 days...august 12-14...

i had to go back "home" in january pretty spontaneously due to a family emergency and ended up staying...my exams in march were coming up, so i decided to write them in germany...and then i had planned to do an internship for 3 months anyway...that i had to do in germany too because no PR status in canada yet...
i'm doing my internship right now...it'll be done by the end of june...my initial plan was to fly back after my seminar was done in august!

considering that we never heard ANYTHING and that my visa office is vienna (17months processing time) i fully expected my PR not to be finalized for at least another year...

SO THIS IS SO CRAZY!!!!! :D

looks like our application was transferred to ottawa...i just saw pics of the letter that my partner received...

i've time to land until july 18, 2015...so basically my earliest landing could be beginning of july since my internship ends end of june...
anyway...i've a few tiny questions:

1. how long after i land until i get my PR card?
2. i'll have conditional PR...but i've to go home for my seminar in august...shortest i can go for is probably 5 days...can i do that without my partner coming with me? it's somewhat like a business trip if you want to say so...i've read before that this would be OK?

please help!
this is throwing me for a loop...so unexpected but so happy! :)

Congratulations Saluma. ;D
I'm also through Ottowa, expectation was Vienna.
I can't answer your questions. Hopefully others!
But i have a question for you, could you share your exact timeline with me? appriciate it! :)

THANK YOU!

for sure...as much as i can...

i sent off our application to mississauga ugust 13, 2014...
i never got AOR, so i can't tell you when CIC received it...HOWEVER...october 14, 2014 i received an email requesting the translation of my police certificate...i got on that right away so i assume they had received it maybe by the end of october...so that's when they're actually starting the process...and that's when the timelines on CIC website are applying...
by december i still hadn't heard about sponsor approval or anything so i sent an email...december 17, 2014 is when i got a response only stating that the application was in process...i never heard anything from them since...up until yesterday! LOL!

so really...i don't even know the timeline...i didn't even know the application was transferred to ottowa...nothing!
that's why i'm SO surprised! :D

best of luck to you!

Wow I never heard such story! Sometimes it's all a crazy dream. It's all over now for you guys!
I hope to hear soon, i did'nt heard anything though, since SA on Oct 28!
Best of luck to your new future in CA. :D

I believe you can travel safely without your spouse/partner.

If your partner is a Canadian Citizen, any time he/she spends outside of the country with you counts towards your residency obligations for PR (not citizenship). So, if you and your partner spent 5 years outside of Canada, you would still meet your residency obligations. Sometime to keep in mind if you want to work outside of Canada and your partner doesn't mind moving.

Could I ask were you get this information from. Not that I question it though.
My Father in law became PR in 1998. Due to circumstances they came back after a view months. My mother in law is Canadian citizen living in the Netherlands. Now they want to go back. Did they failed the residency obligation? Or?

If she has been with him then he has not failed to meet RO. I am assuming he is visa-exempt so returning to Canada should not be difficult.

Even though you have a conditional PR, you can be apart from your sponsor for 5 days. A couple of weeks should be fine - for much longer than that I would prefer to have the sponsor with me.
