CIC has identified client service modernization as one of its strategic business priorities. In support of this priority, HB has been investigating methods by which it could use technology to replace the current manual paper processing system for IMEs. Following discussions with Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and within CIC, a decision has been made to work with Australia to modify its eHealth system to enable use by Canada. eHealth is DIACs online system for recording, processing and storing health examination results for Australian visa applicants. It removes the need for processing paper-based health reports, as panel clinics / panel physicians/ radiologists are able to record all health information for visa applicants online including examination results, digital chest x-rays, specialist reports, and biometric photographs.

...

CIC has entered into an Umbrella Memorandum of Understanding between Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship of the Commonwealth of Australia for the development and establishment of a modified version of Australia's eHealth system to be used by Australia and Canada to process Immigration Medical Examinations. Further details on the implementation of eMedical are contained in the Implementation Memorandum of Understanding between Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship of the Commonwealth of Australia regarding the “eMedical system” to be used by Australia and Canada to process Immigration Medical Examinations.

This report identified privacy risks, and measures were implemented to mitigate or eliminate the issues.

Nice to know the risks will be mitigated!

I saw this in the `fine print' on one of the forms and asked the doctor's assistant about this, prior to signing the consent form, but got a typical "don't worry about it" response.

Re: Did you know that your eMedical results are sent to Australia, before CIC?

Yup, I read the fine print while I was waiting at the doctor's office and I saw that. I guess it makes sense...

Sorry, but I still don't see how it makes sense. Why can't the results be sent to CIC alone?

Yep nice to know risks will be mitigated.. If they are mitigated as well as they are here in Canada no one has anything to worry about. One just needs to look how many times personal information about citizens from Government computers here has been released by accident to an unsecure server or taken deliberately. Yeah nothing to worry about..yeah right.......At the rate things are going our personal information will be stored in many different countries increasing the risk.

Well, I thought that probably Australia had a convenient system in place, and it's probably more cost effective for CIC to use that, than make a system of their own.

As for the privacy concerns... honestly, I don't think that's very high on CIC's priorities at all. That's unfortunate, but I think that's true.

The only thing that I would be curious to ask is since the information is being 'Hosted' by DIAC, where are there servers located? Just because Canada and Australia are using a joint emed system doesn't meant that the information is actually IN Australia, for all you know, they have a reciprocity agreement with 1&1 server industries in CA ;)

Just a thought ....

Your right for all we know, and the chances are very good for that information to be held in U.S servers.
