I received an email from Ottawa VO yesterday saying:

This is in reference to your application for permanent residence in Canada.

In order for us to continue the processing of your application, we require the following documents:

> FBI Clearance: If your residence period in the USA has been six months or longer since the age of 18, provide an original FBI clearance certificate.
> Proof of Relationship: Document proving your relationship with your inviter/family member

1. My Original FBI clearance was submitted with my entire application Sept 10,2014. It was issued Aug 14, 2014. It was valid when CIC received it.
2. My marriage certificate was also included along with a lot of proof.

I am not worried about the Proof of relationship, I resubmitted that with out a problem .

I am worried about the FBI clearance. I went and got prints AGAIN yesterday and submitted a new request to the FBI. However, the wait is now 14+ weeks.

I emailed OTTAWA VO back and advised them that I had submitted the original back in Sept, I told them where to look and I asked them to please look over my paperwork again. I emailed them the copy I had of the original to show them that It was done.

My questions are:

1. Did this every happen to anyone?
2. Did your VO eventually find it?

I am just worried that Ill have to wait another 4-6 months just because they can't find my FBI check.

Thank You.

Sorry to hear that. I don't think they lost anything, they probably haven't seen it yet since I remember you saying your application was big in terms of docs. I'm sure your copies will be enough for them.

All the best

If you want to be really sure, you could go to your local MP's office, and explain the situation, that 1) you already sent it to them, did they not get it? 2) you applied for a new FBI certificate but it's going to take several months, please make sure they are aware of the delay and extend your deadline, and ask them to make an inquiry for you.

I don't know about the Ottawa VO, but most VOs don't seem to respond to emails much. Your MP's office has a direct line to CIC, and CIC will respond to them, usually within 24 hours.

They asked me for a second police certificate, but it was not the FBI one (they said nothing about that one), it was a Russian one they asked for. We had sent it in, of course, and didn't know if it was lost, or whatever. The MP's office helped us clarify the situation (the VO did not like the letterhead) and also ensured that CIC would extend the 30-day deadline they gave us (because getting a new one was going to take at least 2 months).

Our MP's office was quite helpful (it might depend on which MP, who you talk to...) and we're glad we went. For your peace of mind, you might consider going to them, too. I think it is best to go in person, with all your relevant documents (sponsorship approval letter with your UCI and file number on it, copies of the certificates and what not you already sent).

Good luck!

Thank you so much for all your information. We have an appointment with our MP next week and we are hoping they can clarify the situation.

Thank you for the reply!. I have to agree with you, my husband and I think the same. I hope they actually do reply back telling me if they found it but I have a strong feeling they will not. lol... I called the CIC call centre and of course they could not help me. The only thing they could tell me was that in the system it showed that those two documents were not yet received and I should comply with the VO's request.

I'm very sorry to hear this Maria.
Hopefully everything work out fine.

Has it ever happened that CIC lost an application between Mississauga and Ottawa? Reading your post makes me anxious.
I still haven't heard anything and really hope something will happen soon. Nothing since SA.

I really haven't heard of this before. When I ordered my notes it stated where my file was in Ottawa and it even says where it is "stored." I just don't know how the process works. Do they pull it out of "storage" when its ready for review. I could hope so. I am just hoping the email was sent out automatically by the officer when he got to our application and will look at it again when he sees our email. We are pretty heartbroken right now. May was supposed to be the end for us Sept applicants in Ottawa. Sadly it looks like I have a very long road of red tape ahead of me now. :(

I know mine is stored in room 305 in the London office. They have lost so many documents its not funny anymore. I have sent the divorce certificate 3 times including the one I sent in the application. I have sent my step sons birth certificate twice.Honestly don't know what they do with them . I was asked early on just after I got SA for another form which I already had sent in , but they they informed me that it was an error in the system, but by the time they told me that I had sent the forms again... All this crap has delayed my application for months ,then London got busy so now over 12 months. When first applied I thought my hubbie would be here in 6 months .. sigh

I know :( .. You have had it rough. I wish it had not been my FBI clearance because the FBI is pretty backed up themselves. Did you get your MP involved? Did they help? I emailed OTtawa and of course they haven't answered me back. My Notes don't say they have my FBI check and when I called the center they told me its not in the system as being received. So someone didn't scan it or they lost it. :(

I'm really sorry Marciac, the FBI is a huge problem. Hopefully it will suddenly appear when the MP contacts them.

If only CIC would accept FBI reports from the approved Channelers...like they did between mid-January and early March of this year; especially since some of them still issue the report on the same blue security paper that the FBI no longer uses. Now, the FBI report is generated on standard white paper.

Bravo CIC!

Oh Ponga, I'm one of the ones who submitted the channeler report on the tamper proof paper, during that time frame. I still have no confirmation whether CIC will accept it or not. So I may end up in Marcia's position soon enough :-\

When May arrived we were all very happy in the September thread that it would bring some good news, this has not been good news ???

Very sorry for this crappy news Maria. I am going to believe they will find your FBI clearance very soon so all of this can be put to rest and over with 8)
