Hoping someone here can help me out since CIC phones have a long wait time

I have a friend who sponsored her husband and he's now here in Canada. He doesn't fall under the new rules as they applied prior to October 2012. Recently he beat her up and got charged with domestic assault. If he is found guilty will or can he be deported?

Thanks

It is possible but not guaranteed. Does she want him to be?

Yes she does.

Despite not falling under the conditional PR status, a PR can still have their status revoked and be deported for committing certain criminal acts.

Also, you must not engage in an act that would make you inadmissible to Canada such as committing a serious crime

I'm sure they treat each on a case-by-case basis.

By the government's new "tough on crime" bill(in effect for at least one year now), any permanent resident or temporary resident who commits crimes for which the sentence is 6 months or more could be deported. Permanent residents no longer have rights to appeal in such situations. Domestic violence is serious crime.
