Hi all. I am asking on behalf of friends. The wife will be sponsoring her husband. He was two kids back home and he is living here with the wife. Both his kids are under 22 and one is due to give birth after the application is submitted. I pretty much know the inland process since I went through it myself - but I wanted to know from anyone who has/was sponsored and there were dependents outside. And also, what is the process like for adding the baby to the application after it is born. The pregnant dependent is NOT in a common law relationship or married. Please give your opinions/advice. Thanks.

As I understand it, the dependents will be processed by the visa office abroad, in conjunction with the processing of the parent Inland, but all documentation is to be submitted to Vegreville, who will then pass on the documentation to the visa office abroad. Once the child is born, they need to complete the forms needed to add the child to the sponsorship, and CIC will ask for updated information from the sponsor to ensure the family is still able to meet the LICO, because of the new dependent.

In their shoes, to keep the entire application together, although the spouse is in Canada, I would file Outland. Just my tuppence.

Add that for the baby to immigrate, they must show that the mother has full custody or that the father of the baby approves of the immigration.

Thanks CharlieD. I think they are going inland because he is basically out of status and are trying to make use of the "out of status spouse policy." I told them after the baby is born then that's when the LICO will come into play. I urged them to apply outland but at the end of the day they will do what they think works best for them. Does anybody have any idea of the average processing times for the dependents' part of the process? I tried searching but didn't find much... if anyone here has experience with that part please share :)

Thanks Leon. I told them about that too. Now his two kids are over 18 but under 22. I just wanted to confirm if they still need their mother's approval? I'm thinking they do but while we're on the topic here... please share your advice. Thanks.

Leon is talking about the baby that is about to be born. In order for that baby to come to Canada, they will have to prove the mother has full custody/the father approves.

Hi scylla. I get that he was talking about the baby. I told them that the father's approval will be needed. I also wanted to know about him needing approval for his 2 adult daughters from their mom. Thanks.

As they are already 18, I do not think he needs their mothers approval. They are adults, they are free to leave home.

Thanks Leon!
