Dependent Visa while my Work Permit extension is still in progress

Hi,

I need help to understand possible options for my visa situation. I am working in Canada since 2 years on Emplyer Work Permit and now my WP extension is in progress since April 2020. But due to COVID situation they are taking time to process these applications. My husband is in India and I wanted to apply for his Dependent visa and due to current situation Canada stopped accepting paper applications and Online applications ETA is 124 days to process dependent visa.

My question - Can I apply his dependent visa now before receiving my WP extension? As said 124 days will be too much so was thinking to apply now.

Your husband's 'dependent visa' (more commonly known as the spousal open work permit) depends on the validity of your work permit, which is now in process. So applying now would probably not be helpful.

I will apply his Open WP after my WP approval but before that I will need to get his Dependent Visa stampped on which will go for open WP right?

Sorry, I don't know what that means. There is no such thing as a dependent visa.

I had applied his dependent visa earlier as well and he got the visa till my WP last date. Dependent visa basically a visitor visa only but the person can stay more than 6 months in Canada with that visa and the visa will end when Spouse's Visa expired.

There are only two visas that affect most people, the Temporary Resident Visa or the Permanent Resident Visa. Both of these visas are used only to travel to Canada. For the TRV, when the TRV holder arrives in Canada, the officer at the Port of Entry decides how long the person can remain in Canada and with what status. It is an ordinary TRV. It is not a 'dependent visa'. It has no special powers.
The 3 status documents that permit people to stay in Canada are the Visitor Record, the Study Permit and the Work Permit.
The people you describe as getting dependent visas are most likely open work permits for which they are eligible because their spouse is a study or work permit holder. SO, this question makes no sense:

I got my WP extension and I have one query on my Spouse's Visa and Open Work permit. I understand your explanation above very clearly but just to confirm again. Now can I directly apply for Open Work permit for my Spouse and then get the TRV stamped on his passport once Open WP has been approved?

I am not sure how it works for Open WP, will he get the TRV stamping as well with Open WP approval?

@Shweta51190 Hope you get your issue resolved but just wondering if you have your profile on EE already, with your canadian education & work experience it should have given you a edge already in terms of your CRS score to get a PR ? Wouldn't that be an easier route to take ?

One more followup question on SOWP.

I am applying for my WP (LMIA approved) along with my spouse (SOWP), but she has been in US last 6 + yrs as homemaker only and her previous work exp are mostly in freelance with no employer relationship.
So whether she need work exp for SOWP or it fully depends on my WP ?
