Hello everyone,

My husband's ex spouse just told us that she refuses to give her child for a med exam for these or any other purposes.
We are going to try once again but it looks like she won't change her mind.

I was told we should provide some evidence of us trying to get that exam done and contact them. What that might include?
I was honestly hoping she'd say yes... :( How do we go from here? Is there a guideline for this situation?

Thank you for any input.

I don't think there are any guidelines. We also had a terrible time getting my husband's ex to agree to the medical...but finally she relented. I believe you will need to write a letter documenting your efforts (be as specific as possible i.e. number of requests to mother/dates/any legal action/etc.) and I think your husband will need to make a statement that he understands he will never be able to sponsor the child in the future.

This is a tough situation...all the best to you.

Keep trying. Point out that if she does not allow the medical exams now, then the child can never be sponsored. If the mother dies, or the child decides he or she wants to go to school in Canada when older, too bad - without the medical exam now, the child cannot be sponsored ever.
Try having someone the mother trusts to talk to her about this - maybe some relative or friend from your husband's side that she trusts as well? Or some religious leader? They must stress that if she refuses the medical exam, there will only be bad consequences for the child. They should also stress that even if she agrees to the medical, that does not mean the child will immigrate. It does not mean her ex will be taking the child away from her. The medical now is just leaving open the possibility of immigrating to Canada in the future, if needed or wanted then.
