hi

my bf was staying in canada for a year as a visitor and as the visitor visa expired he left canada and tried re-entering but he got denied entry at the border.

im pr holder and im planning to sponsor him. we are not married yet. as i checked on cic website, marriage certificate and family documents are required from his country of origin for sponsorship. my question is, if we register as married in his country and with the supporting documents, is it possible for him to enter canada as a visitor -tell the immigration at the border that he will apply pr inside canada after register marriage in canada? or can they reject him again at the border?

last time when he got rejected, the officer said theres no negative record be remained bc he chose to leave but im sure that they have a record that his eta got rejected.

im currently going through a lot with depression and ptsd, he is the only person who can help, so any advice or help would be really appreciated.

Others can comment as well but from which country is your boyfriend ? Were you living together in Canada for a year and therefore common law at that time at least ? Any reason why your boyfriend did not apply to extend stay as a visitor as opposed to leaving given that might have stood a better chance of approval ?

An ETA by the way is only to allow visa exempts to board a plane for Canada and has nothing to do with entering Canada as that decision is made at the border whether visa exempt or not visa exempt .

Applying for spouse sponsorship as married in another country is not the real challenge but getting a visitor visa whislt the application is in process if not visa exempt can be a challenge given IRCC often suspect the applicant is trying to play the system although having said that nothing to lose by trying.

Any refusal for entry to the country will always be on record even if not a negative outcome given a voluntary departure. What reasons were given at the border ?

As said a lesson learnt not to leave the country in the first place unless absolutely necessary such as becoming an overstayer and options to stay have been exhausted such as the extend stay as a visitor option.

Not sure that your medical issues will help the case .

You will actually have to get married in person in his home country. You can't just register the marriage.
