Delay in Work Permit

Hello all,

I am writing this in regards to my Work Permit Application Status. I have applied for my Post Graduation Work Permit online on May 15, 2019, and I haven't received any response related to the status of my application yet. I am not sure what is the problem here because the IRCC department says that my application is under review and they will make a decision as soon as the review is completed but it is almost 7 months now and yet there is no response. I have tried everything possible like I have contacted my constituency MP's office to inquire about my application, I have filed an IRCC Web Form and I have emailed CPC Ottawa. Every time I get a similar reply that my application is under review and the processing time cannot be mentioned.

I had a similar experience previously when I applied for a Temporary Residence Visa extension (for Study Permit). I have applied for the TRV extension on June 5, 2018, and I had received my decision on February 28, 2019, which is almost like an 8 month period.

Can anyone tell me why these long delays are occurring in processing my applications and recommend me whom I shall approach to get this issue solved?

I’m also in a similar situation for last 8 months. I hope you received the work permit. Can you explain what steps did you take and any method enquiry other than calling CIC and IRCC web form. While calling CIC and reply for web forms are all the same standard format, “due to covid, it’s delayed. But your application is under processing.” People who applied after me received their work permit. Any reply would be insightful. Thank you!

Hello Aparna, sorry to hear that you are in a similar position like me. I have received my work permit on February 28, 2020. I think the problem I had might be the transcripts because when I applied for PGWP, I didn't submit the original transcripts and after 8 months they have asked me to upload the original transcripts and then in a week or two they have approved my application. Below are the following things I did:
1. Contacted CPC Ottawa via email
2. Connected with my constituency MP and asked them to enquire the application status on behalf of me
3. IRCC webforms and CIC calls

I think they are taking longer processing times than usual due to COVID. So, don't panic and wait for a status update, if you have submitted all the required documents you do not need to worry.
