Hello! Greetings of the day.

As a student, I plan to bring around 6-7K CAD with me in form of Cash and Multinational Card. This is separate from my GIC. That is 10K in total. Do I need to declare that I have more than 10K CAD on me when in reality I just have the cash and card?

I'm not sure what the usual procedure is. I carried about $1000 in cash and $3000 in a forex card, which I declared. I already deposited my $10,000 GIC in a Canadian Bank, so I did not declare that, but I carried proof of that which I showed the CBSA Officer.

No you don’t have to declare that you have over 10k if only carrying 6-7K. You only need to declare hard currency you are carrying.
