Hello everyone!

First off, I just want to say that my husband and I have read the forum quite a bit during the waiting stages of our PR application being put in, and we've found so much helpful information - thank you, and thank you for sharing your stories.

A little background info: I am a Canadian citizen, my husband is an American citizen. We've known each other for 14 years, meeting online via a mutual friend. We've been dating for almost five years, and have been married for just over a year. I was approved to sponsor him, and it's been about 10 months since Immigration received our application. We checked our status online two days ago and it finally says a decision has been made, and that they would contact my husband about the decision. So now we're waiting for his letter to arrive so that we know what to do next. (We're trying to be positive and have no reason to believe he's been denied.)

Here lies our issue: He took time off of work for his next visit, which is a month long and he's supposed to drive down for this visit on Wednesday! Is it naive to assume his letter would arrive by Tuesday? We are wondering how long it usually takes to receive your letter once a decision has been made, and if he should put off coming for the visit for a few days to give it time to arrive, or if he should just come as was planned and have a family member send it to us in Canada while he's here if he arrives after he leaves. I'll be accompanying him back to the States to visit my in-laws after about a month, and am supposed to fly back after three weeks. If need be, I'm willing to scrap my ticket and drive back home to Canada with him with his packed belongings if he'll be able to finally stay.

I'm sorry if the question is silly, we're just so excited for this waiting to be over. So, what do you think is the best route of action to take? Thank you in advance, and I wish the best for everyone going through the application/waiting period.

Congrats for "Decision Made". From what you've said, you shouldn't have reasons to believe the letter is a denial letter. Unless the "decision made" came without requesting the RPRF (Right of Permanent Residence Fee of $490 which some people don't pay in advance).

I believe he won't receive the letter by Tuesday. They send it by regular post and it can take weeks. He can come as planned and have someone send him the letter by express post if the letter arrives while he is visiting you.

Depending on the expiry date of his COPR (1 year from last medical exam or sometimes extended for another 5 months) you can also make plans to accompany him back to the States and help him move. Then you can both drive back to Canada and he can land. But like I said, it depends on how much time he has to land (it will say on the COPR).

If the COPR comes while he is in Canada, have the family member open it and tell you the expiry date. Then you can take it from there and make further plans for his landing. If there is plenty of time, he can continue his visit and you can fly back with him.

My COPR arrived 13 days after DM. It came by registered mail (so I had to sign for it). VO Vienna told me that it usually takes 2-3 weeks to arrive

Thank you both so much for the helpful info! We'll go ahead and enjoy his visit as planned, and have the letter redirected to us in Canada by his parents once it arrives, then go from there. You guys are great!
