Hello all!

My boyfriend and I are having serious talks about finally moving our lives together, after a year of distance.. him in Arizona, and myself in Alberta. We are planning on elopping this summer because I never wanted a big wedding and money is super tight. I have done quite a bit of research about the process of spousal sponsorship so I have a good idea about how it works, but there's one question I can't find an answer to..

He has student loans that he still owes money on... will this make him ineligable to get a visa? We don't know how that all works. Could he just keep his US bank account and transfer money? Has anyone had experience with this?

My husband is staying with me in Canada while our (unfortunately extended) application is in progress. He has a credit card and bank account, as well as car insurance still in California. Make sure you get the address changes correct, it took months for our apartment number to get added to the bills, causing delays and some of the US financial systems can't handle our postal codes. I've just been using pay pal to put money in his account as needed.

No, having student loans does not make one ineligible to get a visa.

I would recommend keeping the U.S. bank account so that he can pay back the student loans. It's nearly impossible to pay back U.S. student loans without a U.S. bank account.
