Hi all,
I am new here, and thought I could use help as I can't find the help online or am not finding the right place to look. My daughter will be studying in Canada. I need to open up a bank account in Canada for her. How can I do this? Do we need to take a trip there or can this be done on the phone or online? She has everything else right now- - she is just waiting to be accepted for housing there. Thanks so much.

she can open one when she gets here. Banks dont open accounts without an identification and without someone going there in person. Unless you can find a bank that has branches in Canada and your country of residence. Have you looked at GIC offered by scotia bank? it could be an alternative.

yes GIC is a great option actlly, you can get one for 10,100$ . You can get one from your home country. Once you reach canada
you can start the account. they basically transfer 2k $ every two months , so it can be used as living expense.

100$ is the fee for opening the acc so you get 10k$ in ur account effectively.

Simple- Walk in any Bank prefer TD and Scotia Bank. Take 2 Photo ID proof and study permit.
Open a Stuent account [No fees] . They might give you Credit Card too.

Good Luck.

It's simply the easiest thing to do. Bank of Montreal is the best for students. Just make sure she goes with relatives
