Hi I'm a Mexican and I cannot reapply for IEC for three years after the current one expires. What are my options? I would only like to extend my stay an extra 2 months or so to spend some time with my friends and do some traveling, so a work permit is not needed.

So currently I have a work permit, but I would like to stay another couple of months as simply a tourist.

So my question is, is there a way to stay a few extra months in Canada without a need for a work permit?

Thanks in advance,

1. Before you IEC expires, apply for an extension as a visitor. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visitor.asp

I checked the eligibility tool and in the drop down menu one of the options is "Change status from worker to visitor" and the other relevant is "Extend my stay in Canada as worker", clearly I want to extend my stay in Canada but not as a worker.

My concern is with the fact that I am currently a worker but I want to remain as visitor. So I was wondering if I simply apply to "Extension of temporary resident status as visitor" *which appears to be for those who are simply visitors in the first place, or is it irrelevant what my current status is and it simply means that I would like to extend my stay as a visitor "this time around"

Or do I choose "Another temporary resident permit. Include two passport photos"

Or will I have to change my status from worker to visitor and then once I have done that I apply for ""Extension of temporary resident status as visitor"

Thanks again,

1. Change status from worker to visitor, and no you don't have to apply for anything else once you have applied to change your status.

Thanks, and how long can I stay as a visitor once I change the status?

You request the length of time when you submit the application. If you request a ridiculous period time like 2 years, it will be refused. Only you know how long you want to stay.
