First, a little background: We're an international, intergenerational, same-sex couple. I'm Canadian, retired, live in the GTHA. My partner is in Western New York, graduating this week with a science degree. We've been together for four years, and we married 3 months ago. We're planning to do an inland spousal application, filing in early June. We have the fees paid, all the photos, letters and documents collected and the forms filled out.
I'll be bringing my partner into the country by car at Fort Erie. We've done the crossing many times together. Sometimes with minimal questioning, sometimes with a trip to secondary and a long wait. We're always asked about our relationship, when he will be returning, and about the purpose of our trip. All of which is fine and good.
I was planning to simply state that we're married, have an inland spousal application ready to file, fees are paid, that my partner is going to visit me while his application is processed, and that I'll bring him back home in six months, unless his OWP application is successful. But I'm concerned about the recurring opinion expressed here (and elsewhere) never to volunteer information.
Is there a specific rationale for not being up-front about dual intent ?
I think not mentioning all the facts would lead to more problems, considering that my partner has just graduated and has no job or school ties to the US. (But he does have a supportive family to return to if anything goes wrong.)
