Hi,

I have few questions on obtaining criminal record check for CEC application.

So here is my situation: I will be applying for CEC permanent residency program in October. According to the document checklist on cic.gc.ca website, you are strongly encouraged to submit your police ceritifcates with your application to the CIO. So, I went to the police headquarters today to get my finger prints this morning. I requested for the digital finger printing method (because it is more efficient), but the lady at the office informed me that they cannot provide me with that method (b/c I do not have my file number and the appointed CIC office yet).

So, I just went on and got my finger prints done on paper. I now realized that this method will take me at least 120 days to get my criminal record check. And I need to process my application as soon as possible.

1) What is this file/filing number she was talking about? Is this your client number?
2) Is there any way for me to get my finger prints electronically-- for criminal record check?
3) Should I wait until I receive my criminal record check back and submit a complete application? or should I submit my application without including the criminal record check to Sydney, Nova Scotia?

I look forward to hearing from you all soon.

Thanks!

"When all else fails, read the instructions"

1. You don't require a criminal records check for Canada, CIC will do their own. Only if there is a "hit" then CIC will request a Canadian Criminal Records Check.

To add to that, you need PCCs from every country (EXCEPT Canada) that you have lived in for at least 6 months since you were 18 years old.

It is possible to submit your application without the PCCs, but you'd better have them ready when CIC asks for them, so I suggest you at least apply for them before you submit your application, and include a note to this effect in your application.
