Hi, I am a Canadian citizen looking to sponsor my husband to Canada through Family Class Sponsorship.
One thing that's worrying me is that he has a criminal record from 20+ years ago for being in a fight when he was 17.
It was a long time ago and he has been clean ever since.
I believe he is not inadmissible to Canada, because we have traveled in and out freely for years.
Do you think this will be a problem for our application? Do we need to hire a lawyer?
Thank you for your advice!

Since he was a minor, I can't imagine this being an issue, but...

What was the actual charge?

More importantly...did he complete whatever sentence was imposed?

If, for example, he failed to pay a fine or complete his sentence in any way, there could be an issue.

This alone would not warrant using a lawyer, IMO.

Thank you very much Ponga!

I am not sure the exact charge...
My husband just said he has a record but I'll find out more when I apply for his criminal record.
Any sentences or fines were dealt and done with.

I suppose there is nothing more to do at this point other then proceed as normal. Thanks again!

Sorry I looked again and we'll be asked to get a Police Certificate / Certificate of No Criminal Conviction (CNCC), which he won't be able to get. So do we need to explain this? or just submit the record then and immigration will decide?
