I'm in Philippines living with my Canadian boyfriend and we plan common law to Canada. he has some Canadian credit cards and he ordered supplementary cards with my name on them. is this considered very good proof? and to submit, is it ok to just show scans of the cards , one showing his name and the other showing the same card with my name? he does not use these cards much so nothing on them. thank you

For proof that you have lived together for 12 consecutive months or proof of relationship? Either way, without any supplementary documents, that's not nearly enough.

To prove that you have lived together for 12 months (are commonlaw) you need something like bills sent in both of your names to the same address throughout that time, an apartment lease, utility bills in both names, etc.

Relationship proof can be that, chat logs (this is less important if you are living together), photos, gift receipts, statements from friends/family, etc.

Thanks for reply. I should have added that yes we have other proof, joint rental lease, joint receipts, joint bank account, letters, photos and more going back to 2013. What really was asking is how much weight does credit cards in my name have? He also have life insurance with me as beneficary

Not as much as the rental lease (that's the strongest proof you have), but it's worth adding to your application if that's what your wondering. It looks like you'll be fine with everything you have. The life insurance policy could be used to as proof of relationship as well.

thank you.. i guess every bit helps.. one more thing, to show joint bank account, is it necessary to actually show the funds and transactions inside or can we just submit, for example, a statement from bank stating we have joint account there?

I think just the statement proving that the account is in both of your names is fine.

Yes supplemental credit cards are good proof.

Just showing scans of the card does NOT show they are supplemental cards as the numbers are completely different. You may just have your own separate account from the same card company.

You need to print out a monthly statement that has both of your names on the same invoice.

By joint receipts, do you mean utility bills and things like that with both names and your address on it?

A statement from the bank that you have an account won't really count for much. What you need to show is statements covering at least a one year period showing both names and your address.

oh i did not know cards would have different numbers.. he very rarely uses credit cards, balance is 0. I hope the statement will show my name too.. i don't kinow.. not received cards yet, on order.
what about for life insurance.. is it necesaary to show the amount? or can we just show confirmation he has it with me as benefiicary?

We have joint receipts for things bought for the apt. like fridge and other appliances and household items. The receipts are addressed to us because for many we use online shopping so we have the delivery receipt.
would it be good for example to show picture of fridge together with the receipt? or not necessary?

For current and water bill, it is not in our name but we pay it under the owners name.

For joint bank account, it is not for one year, we got it after living common law for one year. Before that he was transferring money from his account in canada to my account in the philippines. have receipts like from western union and paypal

is that all good?

You don't need a picture of the fridge.

What else do you have besides the lease that shows you have been living together at that address for at least a year?

As I said, we have lots of receipts and delivery lablels from things we bought for the apartment. these show both our names and address too.
also we can get letter from landlord if necessary... would that have to be notarized? what else can we possibly show that we been here more than one year? It is a contract we both sign.
