Hello friends,
I was wondering if we can apply for a study permit for CPA/CGA while we are working on an open work permit/ also someone who has applied for permanent residency under CEC.

Would it affect or void our work permit if we apply for study permit ?

Any advise would be really appreciated. Thanks.

I am doing my CPA/CA right now. My applied for my PGWP in March 2013; then a PT SP in Aug 2013. No issue there - you can work and study. This was done through the lawyer of our firm. I applied for PR in Aug 2014.

You don't need a study permit for CPA

OR do you?

I think so. There are face-to-face sessions in a classroom setting.

#peachCEC did u apply for study permit for your CPA course ?

Yes. Everyone in our firm that is not a PR is required to apply SP for CA/CPA.

Did you apply for study permit? I was checking the list of Designated Learning Institution...but CPA is not there.. So can we even get a study permit for CPA??

Any update on this guys. I'm on a Work Permit and I'm about to apply for PR. I want to take up CPA. Will it require a Study Permit?

Hi Everyone,
just need an update about this topic.
I sent my OWP to CPA and they told me I need a study permit to enroll, however, I'm not sure if I can get one! any idea?
Thank you & cheers

Yes this is true. All those who are in the program should receive an email stating that you will need a study permit to enroll. I believe it was send out in July or June

You absolutely need a study permit to enroll (they may be willing to enroll you before the deadline without a study permit but only on the condition that you receive your study permit a few weeks prior to the beginning of the course and i can't guarantee that, each province being different).

Depending on the province, some of the schools are approved for the issuance of new study permit. In those you should be able to apply with a letter from them for a new study permit.

Not all the school applied for this and therefore the ones not recognized as a proper institution for a new study permit will not give you this opportunity. Your only option is to apply for an extension of a previous study permit (even if expired, as long as you got a study permit before, you can apply for an extension depending on different criteria). You will need a different letter from the cpa school stating also that you will study there and need a study permit but that they are not approved.

It doesn't take too long either as study permits are processed fairly fast if done online.

It does not impact your work permit nor your permanent residency application.

Hi People,
My spouse is here on Open Work Permit. Will she require a study permit to take up a course like CPA given that CPA is a one day exam and not a full fledged classroom academic course ?
