I plan to goto Europe this summer. I'm hoping my PR card end of June, but in case it doesn't come can I travel and return to Canada with just my passport and COPR? The COPR says "Not for Travel" on it which concerns me.

I believe you can travel only by car if you plan on using your COPR.

As I was told last Friday by the CBSA: since I am from a visa exempt country, I would be allowed to board the plane in Europe as a visitor to Canada. If you are from a non-visa exempt country, you must apply for a travel document if you intend to come back to Canada over a Canadian airport.

"Not for travel" simply means that you cannot travel solely on this document; you must have a valid passport or travel document.

From your previous posts, you are visa-exempt. You can board the plane to Canada as a visitor on the strength of your passport. Don't mention that you are a PR, as the airline may then request your PR card and refuse to board you if you can't produce it. Airline staff are not trained to recognize a COPR, so don't bother trying to show it to them. Just pretend you are a visitor. When you get to Canadian immigration, present yourself as a PR and explain that your PR card hadn't arrived yet; the border officer will have no issue with that.

You are a PR. You don't require a work permit.

They take away your work permit when you land? My visa and work permit are valid till Feb 2015. I am not from a visa exempt country (India). So that means I would need a travel document for coming back to Canada by air? Because the visa would not be of any use without a work permit?

Hi All,

Can any one pls tell me what is the content of COPR.
Does it mention the class under which you have applied and the last entry and exit dates from Canada.

Please suggest.

Cheers
